Sydney
Wow Sydney- what a great weekend! The city is much bigger than I realized, with more than twice the population of Toronto and over ten times the population of Halifax. Trams travel through big pedestrianized areas in the center, making the city quiet and futuristic.
We, Simon and Frank traveled to the city by train and stayed in a youth hostel above an archeological site focused on remembering the lives of the working poor 100 years ago. On the first day, we had an incredible walk through the botanical gardens to the Sydney art gallery and then along the harbor. We saw lizards on fabulous ferns, impressionist art, and the opera house all in one afternoon.
Later in the evening we found a public piano under the bridge and Ben and Clara played their own compositions. Magic!
The next morning we explored a small zoo on the harbour. We learned a lot about Kofi, a tree kangaroo, and saw crocodiles at eye level. Then, we rode a local ferry in the Sydney harbour, and saw a seal close to the shore. We raced for the train, picking up groceries on the way, and made it just in time.
We even fit in some drawing time (by Clara)

Nice drawing, Clara. Ben, you've grown so tall!
