A real adventure
This post is to share some of the great photos from our recent cycling trip to the Magdalan Islands, a chain of islands 5 hours north of PEI by ferry.
The weather was beautiful, except for the first day battling a headwind and rain to get to the south. I think that that day helped us to appreciate all the days that followed. Ben enjoyed riding on the front of the bike: "Bike Dada!", and Will enjoyed having him there, although he'd underestimated the challenge of having to provide in-flight entertainment while going along (Old MacDonald, Coming up the Mountain, Little Green Frog, etc). We liked the option of the back trailer for naps and an escape from the weather.
One of the best things about the trip for me was realizing that if you've got food and a tent with you, you don't need any set plans. We figured things out from day to day, and some of the best moments were unexpected things like finding a beech that already had deck chairs waiting, and coming across a fiddle session when trying to walk Ben to sleep. We appreciated the joys of Quebec: very friendly people, more relaxed rules, and the chance for Will to practice his key phrase: "Je suis desole, mon Francais est tres mal."
We loved being outside so much, and being so in touch with the weather- rain, wind direction, where to find shade. It was also nice to sleep together in the tent at night-- all three of us lined up inside. Ben was talking up a storm for the whole trip and is now putting 3 words together ("Mama hat on" "Nini (train) book PLEASE!"). It was definitely more of a challenge traveling with him than it would have been on our own (e.g., middle of the night vomiting, not sleeping, etc), but it was very nice to see that we could still do something we love, and have a happy little person along for the ride.

Lovely pictures and stories! I can't seem to view the video, it says that it's "private."
